Just as “Het einde van mensen in 1967” wasn’t bad. Maybe Brusselmans had a good year in 1999. But “Pitface”, or “Mank” have cured any desire to read anymore of his books.

I can see why Herman Brusselmans would name him a favourite writer – especially because of the dark dead pan humour – but it’s a shame Brusselmans doesn’t use more Ballard in his own books. I couldn’t read his latest ones.

It was a little chilling to read Ballard’s saying that “a vicious and genuinely mindless neo-fascism, a skilfully aestheticised racism, might be the first consequence of globalisation,” because I’d just been talking to a friend last week about the same thing (tho’ not so well expressed, of course!).
