Loze kreten
Logde ik een maand of wat terug over mijn idee een Woordenboek van de nietzeggendheid en loze kreten™ te gaan opstellen, is het er al. In het Engels. Maar omdat alle lulkoek uit het Engels er bij ons helemaal gretig ingaat, is melding hier toch wel degelijk op zijn plaats.
The Dictionary of Bullshit heet het, en het werd geschreven door Nick Webb, en hier besproken.
Dus citeer ik hier graag de uitleg over het onaantastbare hoera-woord, dat politici zo gaarne uiten.
Political bullshit uses another trick – the unassailable Hurrah Word. These are words so revered and sacramental that any sentence in which they appear is perceived as axiomatic. “Family, God, freedom, choice, commitment, values, democracy, community…” and many other hurrah words are injected unexamined into political speeches. The powerful roll them around their mouths with counterfeit passion.
“Choice is a democratic freedom… Freedom is a democratic choice… Democracy is freedom of choice…” The permutations resonate well, but the ideas behind these complex concepts are seldom examined.
