Hurray, for our new government

Of all the classes of men, I dislike most those who make their livings by talking – actors, clergymen, politicians, pedagogues, and so on. All of them participate in the shallow false pretenses of the actor who is their archetype. It is almost impossible to imagine a talker who sticks to the facts. Carried away by the sound of his own voice and the applause of the groundlings, he makes inevitably the jump from logic to mere rhetoric.

    Wat mij nou benieuwt: waar dit citaat vandaan komt. Langsgekomen op het internet? Op gebotst terwijl u lusteloos bladerde in een boek van Mencken dat u op de plank had staan? Of een gelukkige greep uit het citatenwoordenboek?

    Ik zocht in het boek “A Mencken Chrestomathy” naar een quote van hem die niet online te vinden was, vond die niet, en herinnerde me toen hier al over gestruikeld te zijn op een website.
