We can go through endless examples — Uber, Taskrabbit, Grubhub, and so on. I use some of these things myself. One can hardly escape them. But it would be foolish to call them innovation. They are not even renovation. They are regression. Their net effect is to disempower people, amplify inequality, corrode norms, shatter values, stagnate wages, and turn already pressured workers into algorithmic neo-servants. Why is that?
