At last, Fanfare Ciocarlia this week. Though, somewhat reluctantly.
Last week, Belgian television showed a documentary about the gruesome faith of Roma brides. Arranged to be married when they are fourteen, fifteen. Ending up as little more than slaves basically in a strange family.
Fanfare Ciocarlia is a Roma orchestra, that got its good reputation by playing uplifting tunes at such weddings. Where none of the brides ever smile.
Maybe it’s just best never to know too much.

ik kocht fanfare ciocarlia nadat ik de film ‘black cat white cat’ (van kusturica, die ook underground maakte) had gezien. dezelfde bruidsellende lijkt daarin te gebeuren, maar kusturica vindt daar gelukkig iets op.
ik vind het onbegrijpelijk mooi, dat koppig feestvieren ook al valt er eigenlijk niets te vieren.
