Quote of the Day | 0325

Sabbagh quotes Harvard psychologist Susan Clancy: “It’s unnerving to realise that our stories, feelings, memories of the past are reconstructed over time, and that we make up history as we go along.” Which makes you wonder what memory is actually for – and here, Sabbagh has a good answer. It’s to help us adapt to the conditions around us. In other words – and this is my gloss – it’s designed, not to be accurate, but to be helpful.
