Potter on Potter ~ Dennis Potter
I read this book as background material to Dennis Potter’s TV series The Singing Detective, that I watched on DVD the other day. Although, these interviews are about everything he has done.
And, it is always strange to read interviews in pursuit of the genius shown in the work. I do hope something will shine through — that some word or phrase will show everything in another light from then on. Of course, this never happens.
Someone’s unique view can be shown in work, but can never be relayed in words that are generic enough to be understandable for someone else, I reckon. In Dennis Potter’s case it’s even more difficult, because his health gave him so much trouble. His was not a normal life.
