The Witch Hunt that Filled Guantanamo
Our honoured ally George W. Bush now has dictatorial powers to decide how ‘enemy combatants’ may be treated. Even if this includes a lot more torture than simply taking their freedom away from them.
Now, I already knew several detainees in Guantanamo Bay were only there because they happened to own the same kind of cheap wristwatch that was used elsewhere to set off bombs, in terrorist attacks.
Turns out, matters are even worse. Amnesty International alleges 85% of the detainees were brought in by the Afghan Northern Alliance and Pakistani mercenaries, who got paid up to $ 5,000 for anyone caught.
While them just saying someone was a terrorist, was enough reason for his detention.
