Yes, there are some excellent staff journalists working to communicate science seriously and clearly in British newspapers such as The Times or The Guardian. Yet one of our biggest-selling British daily papers is the Daily Mail — whose science coverage in recent months has revealed that using Facebook can raise your risk of cancer; that science proves that the Bible’s stories are true; and, in a headline just ahead of the Large Hadron Collider’s launch: “Are we all going to die next Wednesday?” Apparently the answer was “No”.
